Wednesday Morning Etching (all levels) with Nicci Haynes

This is a class for all levels of printing experience. Etching is a medium with endless possibilities where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and etched to produce a range of marks from delicate lines to painterly gesture. Ink is applied to the plate and the print is taken by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press. Beginning students will be guided through a variety of etching techniques to develop line and tone to produce beautiful intaglio prints, while those with some experience will be given guidance in more advanced approaches. Bring along anything that inspires you – notebooks, photographs, objects, and drawings – and get printing!
Exploring Woodcuts (introduction) with Peter McLean

From early book illustrations to contemporary works of art, relief prints have been a beautiful and powerful means of communication and artistic expression. Learn all about relief printing with woodblocks in this comprehensive six-week workshop. Participants will explore a variety of cutting methods and tools to create marks, hand-printing and press printing techniques, as well as experimenting with printing on a range of Asian and European style papers. Relief prints are a dramatic yet simple printmaking technique that can be practiced at home without any expensive equipment. A great introduction to printmaking or a refresher for those who wish to brush up their skills.
Screen Print on Fabric (intro or intermediate refresher) with Kate Ward

This course provides a comprehensive six-week introduction to screen printing on fabric covering photo-emulsion stencil techniques as well as direct stencil methods that are achievable in home studios, such as contact and paper stencils. Students will become familiar with preparing their screens and inks, printing methods and heat-setting printed images. You will be printing your own t-shirts, tea-towels and fabrics in no time! Course fee includes essential materials.

This workshop is an introduction to the rich and expressive medium of etching. Etching is a medium with endless possibilities where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and etched to produce a range of marks from delicate lines to painterly gesture. Ink is applied to the plate and the print is taken by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press. Students will learn how to prepare plates, use a variety of mark making techniques, etch the plate and print using the intaglio presses. Paper preparation and press setting will also be taught. A great introduction for anyone new to this exciting and versatile medium or a refresher for anyone returning to etching.
Screen Print on Fabric (intro or intermediate refresher) with Jo Robinson

Ever wanted to print your own fabrics, t-shirts or soft furnishings? Learn to screen print on fabric in this fun weekend workshop. A variety of stencil techniques including photo-emulsion will be covered, as will screen and image preparation, printing methods and heat-setting techniques. An action-packed introduction to this fast, flexible and creative print medium! Course fee covers all materials, but participants are welcome to bring extra light coloured fabric items (e.g. tea towels, aprons, t-shirts) to print on to.
Exploring Linocuts (introduction or intermediate refresher) with GW Bot

Learn the basics of relief printing in a weekend using lino. This course will cover a variety of cutting methods, as well as hand-printing and press printing techniques. Screen Print on Paper (intro or intermediate refresher) with Richard Blackwell

An intensive two-day introduction to the fast and flexible print medium of screen printing. Participants will be introduced to the a range of techniques relating to screen printing on paper to develop single and multi-coloured prints in a number of formats. The course will cover image and screen preparation, as well as ink and paper selection and the safe use of printmaking equipment. Students will also be introduced to image registration incorporating both photographic and direct stencil techniques to explore this fast and versatile print medium.
Exploring Monoprints (intro or intermediate refresher) with Andrew Moynihan

Monoprints are one of the most painterly methods of printmaking, and a great choice of technique for anyone who has a love of expressive drawing or painting and would like to apply them to printmaking. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike and its methods allow for great spontaneity and experimentation. This one-day workshop is suitable for both absolute beginners as well as those with printmaking experience who would like to try something new.
Beginning Lithography (intro or intermediate refresher) with Surya Bajracharya
Day + date: Weekend Workshop 11 & 12 September 10am – 4pm

A weekend introduction to the fascinating printing technique of lithography, this workshop will focus maninly on drawing and mark making onto lithographic stone. Working directly onto the surface of the stone, participants will use specialised crayons and inks to create their images which are then etched and printed. Great for anyone with a love of drawing or painting. Course fee covers basic materials.
Procion Fabric Dyeing (all levels) with Mog Bremner
Day + date: Weekend Workshop 11 & 12 September, 10am – 4pm
This workshop will introduce participants to the use of Procion™ dyes on various materials, including cloth and paper. This is a user-friendly and environmentally safe dye with unlimited creative potential. The weekend workshop will take an exploratory approach to using dyes for surface treatment and mark making and will give the participants a wide range of techniques applicable to textile works, works on paper, artists’ books, yarns and cloth.
