Join
well-known printmaker Seraphina Martin for this stimulating solar plate
and viscosity printing workshop to produce colourful prints using non-toxic
methods which allow you to create the solar plates in the comfort of
the home environment. Solar plate etching is a quick, simple and safe
alternative to traditional etching. Rather than acids, all that is needed
is the UV rays of the sun to etch a plate. Seraphina will also introduce
participants to viscosity printing, a technique where oil is mixed with
coloured inks, creating multi-layered effects of on a plate. Fee includes
essential materials.

The
woodcut is renowned for its bold and dramatic presence Ð the relatively
direct approach to the medium however is rich with possibilities in
terms of generating a range of responses to a particular image, theme
or set of ideas. This weekend workshop will explore a range of approaches
to both cutting and printing including stenciling, jigsaw, chine collŽ
and monoprint. The course is suitable for beginners as well as those
with some experience in the medium.

Explore
the exciting possibilities of creating repeat designs on fabric using
hand carved lino blocks. The first part of the workshop involves re-creating
your design with traditional cutting tools onto reinforced lino squares.
Participants will print these as placement or scatter prints, or use
an all-over regular repeat approach for complete coverage. We will also
employ other techniques such as hand-painting and background colouring
and might even attempt a group project!

one-day workshop exploring various methods of converting prints to artist
book formats. A wonderful way to transform proofs and misprints, or
to develop a distinct body of work within your print practice. Participants
are encouraged to bring their own prints (or colour photocopies of good
prints) to play with, and/or they can work with blank paper (provided)
to create maquettes for later reference. Caren Florance is a letterpress
printer and designer who teaches Book Arts at the ANU School of Art.

is a Japanese term for the process of dyeing cloth with a pattern by
binding, stitching, folding, twisting, or compression, each method used
