ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is inspired by being in the landscape and the experience of wonder and mutability that comes with a close and patient observation of nature. Working between drawing and printmaking processes, I strive to evoke a sense of humility and concern for both the power and the fragility of our natural environment.

In my multi-panel monotype, Slippage, I worked in a subtractive manner – wiping away from a field of indigo etching ink with a rag around my finger. By employing the immediacy and directness of the monotype technique, I intend to make the touch of my hand prominent in the print. With tender strokes I aim to imbue the landscape with gestures of care and dynamism, reanimating sites of erosion and decay.

Slippage makes particular reference to my encounter with shoreline erosion from my perspective as a kayaker and walker exploring the perimeter of Lake Victoria in Gippsland.
