The Volcano Lover is an exhibition of miniature mono-prints by printmaker Andrew Moynihan, opening at Megalo Print Studio and Gallery at 6pm on Thursday 18 February. The tiny, delicately rendered volcanic explosions were completed by Moynihan over several months and invite us into vast dramas played out across æons of time. Moynihan plays with both physical and emotional scale in these works: by portraying the powerful, explosive forces of volcanoes in miniature he creates cameo portraits of awe-inspiring natural phenomena; events of enormous force and impact are transformed into intimate moments that can be held within the palm of the hand.

Moynihan has recently moved to Canberra from Alice Springs where he exhibited regularly and was actively involved in the arts community. While living in the Northern Territory he printed at Charles Darwin University, where he made the prints for the Volcano Lover series.
