Over 4 evening sessions, local artist and former artist in residence Peter McLean will take you through all the steps of creating multi-colour woodblock prints. Pete will demonstrate both the reduction cut method and the multi-block method, and students will get to choose their preferred option for an independent project in the final weeks.

Session 1. This session will focus on playing with colour and transparency. Each student will do some quick carving and then print a few layers so they can observe how different colours interact.

Session 2. Pete will teach you about the reduction cut process, and students will do a small 2 or 3 colour print.

Sessions 3 & 4. The second half of the course is where students can just have the supported time to use what you’ve learned to make an image, choosing either reduction or multi-block methods. Pete will guide you through designing a multi block image, correct use of tools for carving, selecting and mixing your colours, and registering your block for printing.

ABOUT THE TUTOR
