Andriana+in+the+Studio.jpg

In late 2018 we awarded graduating Honours student Andriana Carney, from Sydney College of the Arts with a 2019 Mega Residency. The Megalo emerging artist award has enabled her to spend the last 4 weeks in-residence with us including accommodation. Each year we offer 11 MEGA residencies to Australian graduating students.
Andriana has been making the most of this opportunity. She has been working solidly across the Press and Screen studios to develop a new body of work and refine and develop her skills with the help of our studio Managers and technical team. We can’t wait to see what she does next. Stay in touch Andriana and come back and visit us soon, the people are great, tea is always brewing + Canberra is only a train away!

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 2019

ROSE-MARY FAULKNER

Also in the studios over the last month has been Rose-Mary Faulkner who was awarded a 2019 Megalo Residency last year. Rose-Mary has a BA in Visual Arts (Glass) from the ANU School of Art and Design, Canberra. During her residency Rose-Mary has been working on transitioning her CMYK screen prints from paper to glass, using kiln firing enamels instead of ink.

Rose-Mary has been spending her time working across both Megalo Print Studio and the Canberra Glassworks, printing at Megalo and then fusing her pieces at the glassworks. Rose-Mary finds the similarities between glass and paper fascinating as both can be valuable or disposable, strong or fragile, hard or soft, opaque or transparent. During her time in residence at Megalo she has been exploring these ideas to the fullest. We’ve been really excited to have been able to enable her with the time and space to explore new directions in her practice and to see her have the space for experimentation.

KATE VASSALLO

Kate Vassallo is a cross-disciplinary artist who recently moved from Sydney to Canberra. She was awarded a 2019 Megalo residency last year and has also been working very hard at Megalo - mainly focusing on etching in the Press Studio.

Over the last few years she has been focused on expanding her drawing work into print. Her pencil drawings are constructed with thousands of fine, straight, ruled lines on paper. For Kate, the repetitious action of drawing straight lines becomes like a performative method of timekeeping. She is using her time in residence to explore incorporating etching into this methodology. Kate is taking the time the residency affords her to play with translating the linear and graphic nature of her drawing process through print. Kate is another resident who is throwing all her energy into this opportunity. We love supporting artists who embrace the potential of different mediums and aren’t afraid to experiment with new things! We’re loving seeing your new work emerging Kate!

Applications for the 2020 Megalo Artist in Residence Program open on 1 August + close 30 September 2019 so keep an eye out + perhaps it will be you at Megalo in 2020!
