Megalo Printmaker in Residence

Megalo Printmaker in Residence Program 2008

Applications Now Invited!

The Megalo Printmaker In Residence Program provides participating artists with a stipend and six weeks access to the Megalo Print Studios in Canberra. The choice of printmaking equipment and facilities includes Screen Printing on fabric or paper, Digital Technology, Etching, Lithography and Releif Printing. The purpose of the residencies is to support the making of the new work that meets the program objectives of excellence and innovation.

It is expected that residents will be proficient in the print media in which they intend to work, unless a specific counter understanding has been established between Megalo and the artist through the application process. Applications from artists who are not printmakers will be considered where the artist intends to share or assign the stipend to a printmaker who will be responsible for production of their prints, any such arrangements should be clearly explained within the application. Megalo can recommend printmakers to provide technical support.

Selected artists will receive:

  • A living allowance of $2,000

  • Materials allowance of $300

  • Extended access to the Megalo workshops for a period of 6 weeks

  • Up to $3,000 travel and accommodation subsidy to one Visiting Artist.

  • A place in the residents group exhibition at the Megalo Gallery in 2008

Contribution from participants

Participating artists are asked to contribute a representative body (20%) of work from the residency to the Megalo archive. The archive collection is used for the purposes of exhibition and scholarly research. By way of contribution to Megalo's members, artists are asked to provide a practical workshop in a print related technique and to present and discuss their work at a forum of Megalo members. Any such contributions should be identified in the application. Megalo will have the right to reproduce work made by residents for the future promotion of the program but will in all such instances acknowledge the artist as being the maker of the work.

Artists are selected for the program through an application process that looks at examples of recent work and a written submission that outlines the proposed program of artistic activity. The selection panel aims to present a diverse group of residents within each annual program and considers factors such as media to be used and the need for a balance between emerging and mid career artists within the program. All applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by 20th December 2006.
