This workshop is a great introduction to the rich and expressive medium of etching. Etching is a medium with endless possibilities where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and etched to produce a range of marks from delicate lines to painterly gesture. Ink is applied to the plate and the print is taken by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press. Local artist Kira Godoroja-Prieckaerts will teach students how to prepare plates, use a variety of mark making techniques, etch the plate and print using the intaglio presses.

Price of workshop includes all materials. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to refine their skills.

ABOUT THE TUTOR: Kira is a Canberra-based artist working primarily in the disciplines of drawing, printmaking and painting. She studied Printmedia and Drawing at the ANU School of Art and Design specialising in etching, relief printing and monotype. She enjoys combining  techniques and re-working plates to push beyond traditional printmaking conventions. Her works often explore social issues from a personal perspective.

Kira has exhibited in several group and solo show including at ANCA gallery and the 8th National Print Symposium at the National Gallery of Australia. In 2017 she received the Belconnen Arts Centre Emerging Artist Support Scheme award.
