ANZAC CENTENARY PRINT PORTFOLIO 2014-15
To mark the centenary of the First World War, the Australian War Memorial commissioned the ANZAC Centenary Print Portfolio. Featuring work by five Australian and five New Zealand artists, the portfolio explores the ANZAC legacy and commemoration in a contemporary context. Artists were asked to respond creatively to the history and legacy of the war, as well as to the significance of the Centenary to both countries.
This transnational exchange reflects a diversity of artistic perspectives and constitutes an important cultural response to this key historical event. Working at Megalo Print Studio + Gallery, artists developed their work under the technical oversight of master printmaker John Loane, and Megalo staff between May 2014 and June 2015.
The commissioned artists were: Daniel Boyd, Megan Cope, Helen Johnson, Mike Parr, and Sangeeta Sandrasegar from Australia and Shane Cotton, Brett Graham, Fiona Jack, John Reynolds, and Sriwhana Spong from New Zealand.
The portfolio was officially launched in March 2016 with an exhibition at Parliament House, Canberra, Australia and was followed by an exhibition in September 2016 at Te Papa, Wellington, NZ.
