Be inspired by the local environment to create your own unique prints with award-winning artist, Annika Romeyn.

This workshop will begin with a Friday afternoon field-trip to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, providing a shared experience and common focus for your monotype responses. You will join Annika for a short walk where she will discuss her approach to fieldwork, and offer advice about sketchbooks and drawing. You will have the opportunity to sketch, photograph, observe, listen, birdwatch, and generally gather inspiration to explore throughout the weekend.

Watercolour monotype is a fluid and immediate method of printmaking, resulting in a single vivid impression. Watercolour is applied to a plastic plate and printed onto damp paper with the strong pressure of an etching press. This process lends itself to experimentation and is best used to mediate the unique painterly marks of each individual. Annika will spend time with you to consider how the technique might be adapted to suit your goals. Annika will then guide you through the process of preparing and painting on the plate, and will assist you in using Megalo's etching presses to make your own prints. This class is appropriate for printmakers of all levels and will particularly benefit those with some interest or experience in watercolour painting.

About the tutor
Annika Romeyn combines printmaking, drawing and watercolour processes, creating intricate and immersive works on paper that convey her experiences of being in the landscape and bear witness to the power, fragility and dynamism of nature. Slow journeys on foot, and by kayak and raft, have resulted in an enduring fascination with complex and dramatic rock formations - humbling reminders of elemental forces and geological time. Annika is particularly interested in grappling with the raw beauty of the coast, gullies, gorges and mountains of South-East Australia and seeking to understand her relationship to personally significant places.
