HEAT PRESS COPPER PLATE ETCHING
with Bella La Spina
10am - 4pm | Saturday 5 + Sunday 6 July 2025
Heat press copper etching is a process that transfers a photographic image onto a prepared copper plate. The plate is then etched in an acid bath, creating a detailed image that can be inked and printed.
In this weekend workshop, Sydney based printmaker Bella La Spina will guide you through the process of making your own photographic print. You will learn basic Photoshop skills and experience processing a copper plate into an etching in a dedicated print studio. You will come home with a high quality edition of your own etching printed onto high quality cotton paper.
Bella La Spina is a contemporary printmaker practicing on Gadigal and Kuringgai Land. Primarily working with found and archival imagery, her practice expands across the mediums of printmaking, photomedia and sculpture to create assemblages that explore themes of memory, history, erasure and haunting. Bella graduated from the National Art School in 2023 with an MFA in Printmaking. Her works are held nationally and internationally including in the Arts Law Centre of Australia collection and the National Art School Archive.
