Patterning: surface design projects
annie Trevillian
27 August - 8 October 2022
The exhibition brings together a range of surface design projects by Kamberri/Canberra artist and designer Annie Trevillian. Trevillian draws inspiration from the landscape, motifs and patterns from the natural world weave in and out of her studio practice. Highlighting in particular the Dhulwa and Gawanggal community design projects, together with studies, textiles, wallpaper designs and recent studio-based fabric works, these processes and sources of inspiration are brought together within the gallery.
Using drawing and painting as the basis for screenprint and digital surface designs, Trevillian’s artworks are transformed in a process of digital layering and assemblage. Presented together with studies and images, primarily watercolours of local flora and fauna drawn from the site, the exhibition reveals an iterative design process through which Trevillian joyfully re-interprets her natural surroundings.
Annie Trevillian is an established Kamberri/Canberra based textile designer, artist and maker with a professional studio practice spanning over 35 years. She integrates drawing, painting and screenprinting with digital technologies. She has been an active member of Megalo Print Studio since 1983 and Craft ACT since 1988.
