Ever since its foundation in 1980, Megalo has combined a passionate commitment to social justice with a dedication to supporting the arts and culture across the community. Culture Clubs showcases these intersections, with collaborations between artists, members and community groups.

From band gigs to high school theatre troupes, local cafes and student groups, the posters featured in Culture Clubs were designed to stand out and grab attention in an ever more crowded cityscape. The designs are as diverse as the content, ranging from dadaist collage to powerful geometrics and quirky cartoons.

Highlights of the exhibition include sequences of posters commissioned for landmarks in Canberra’s arts scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s - Bitumen River Gallery, Canberra Youth Theatre, the Performing Arts Cafe, and the 2XX Radiothons.
