LINO PET PORTRAITS

with Lisa Jose
10am - 4pm | Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd August 2026

Stuart, linocut, Lisa Jose

Linocut is a relief printmaking technique that creates an image by carving into artist’s linoleum. Ink is applied to uncarved areas, and the image is transferred to paper using a printing press or burnishing by hand.

In this two-day workshop you will create a linocut portrait of a pet or favourite animal. Each animal has a unique personality, and you will learn how to capture their individuality in print. Lisa will cover every aspect of the technical process: selection of a suitable reference photo, transferring an image to lino, carving, and printing a black and white image. At the end of the workshop, you will have produced your own pet portrait.

About the tutor:

Lisa Jose was awarded a PhD in archaeology before becoming a full-time artist and silversmith. She developed her love of relief printmaking when she discovered it combined the skills required for precise archaeological illustration with her passion for making. Lisa believes animals are the best subjects. She has held two solo exhibitions of linocut animal portraits and creates commissioned pet portraits. Lisa also produces screen printed textiles with native and domestic animal designs.
