Damon Kowarsky
travelling without moving
5 february - 19 mARCH 2022
The core of Damon Kowarsky’s work across drawing, printmaking and painting lies in his interpretation of architectural spaces and public landscapes worldwide. Throughout his travels in Europe, Asia and the Americas, he collects experiences and vistas for translation into evocative, narrative and immersive images. ‘Travelling Without Moving’ presents a selection of works created over the past four years, spanning a period of disruption that has challenged Kowarsky’s practice and inspired him to journey, not overseas, but into the depths of his personal archive.
Damon Kowarsky is a Melbourne based artist who studied printmaking at Victorian College of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art. Architecture and the colours of earth and sky inspire much of his work. Kowarsky is the recipient of numerous awards including a Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award, Creative Victoria New Works Grant and Australia Council Asia-Australia Creative Partnerships Grant. Kowarsky exhibits regularly in Australia and abroad, including solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Hong Kong, New York, Philadelphia, Wellington, Cairo, Damascus, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.
Join Damon Kowarsky in the Megalo gallery in conversation with artist, researcher and curator Ren Gregorcic for a special Q&A session at 4pm, Friday 18 March.
